WELCOME TO KIWIS – our Nursery centre caring for children from birth to 2 years

Our Kiwis centre is licensed for 23 children.  Fiona is the senior teacher and leads a team of five educators.

Infants and Toddlers are my passion in life and I feel honoured to work alongside the children and teachers in the Kiwi centre.  In my seventeen years of experience in Early Childhood I have worked with a range of ages and philosophies and still feel that I am the student as much as the teacher.

At Kids Inn Kiwis, we believe that relationships formed during a child’s early years are the foundation for emotional security and social development for later life.  What they experience, feel and know in their infant and toddler years becomes the map by which they will navigate the world.  (Centre of Attachment, 2006).  For this reason we have adopted a system called ‘Primary Care-giving’ with the aim of establishing an environment in which meaningful consistent and lasting relationships can be fostered between educators and children as well as between educators and families/whanau.

We follow and strongly support the Magda Gerber philosophy of respect and partnership with children and whanau.  We value the unhurried moments we share with your child because as Magda Gerber says “we should never try to teach a baby something that, in time, they will discover for themselves.  We should instead allow time and space for natural progression through self-discovery”.

Routines and Records

We aim to follow the same routines for your child at Kiwis as they have had home.  From meal times and sleep times to their favourite cuddly toy or rug, your primary caregivers role is to make the transition from home to Kiwis a comfortable experience for your child.

Your child will also have their own Individual Portfolio that records their learning and development at Kiwis.  Parents and whanau are encouraged to contribute to the Portfolio to share information about your child.
